Iron-Man Late Model Series

Pete Abell Memorial at Ponderosa Speedway Postponed to Friday September 2

SOMERSET, KENTUCKY (August 4, 2022)- The 24th Annual Pete Abell Memorial that was scheduled for Friday August 5 at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY has been postponed to Friday September 2.

With the unfavorable weather forecast of rain showers predicted throughout the day on Friday August 5, track officials at Ponderosa Speedway and officials with the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series and Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Southern Series felt it was in the best interest of the race teams and race fans to postpone the event with the hope of a more favorable weather outlook at a future time. The promoter has also bumped up the purse for that night to now $10,000 to win.

The 24th Annual Pete Abell Memorial will now take place on Friday September 2, with the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern and Southern Series racing for $10,000 to win, along with the Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Southern Series racing for $1,500 to win.

The postponement will set a three-race weekend for the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series, with Ponderosa Speedway’s Pete Abell Memorial now set for Friday September 2, joining events already scheduled at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA on Saturday September 3 and Tazewell Speedway on Sunday September 4.

The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern and Southern Series event scheduled for Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN on Saturday August 6 is still on as originally scheduled at this time, with the event being the track’s 18th Annual Hall of Fame Classic, paying $10,000 to win, along with the Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified (UMP) Northern Series racing for $1,000 to win.
