South-Central Kentucky Dirt Racing Hall of Fame Creates “Rod Carter Jr. Sportsmanship Award” starting in 2025
The Executive Board of the South-Central Kentucky Dirt Racing Hall of Fame is pleased to announce that in addition to the annual set of inductees, a separate and special honor will be given at each ceremony starting in 2025.
The “Rod Carter Jr. Sportsmanship Award” has been created as a way of showing appreciation to a member of the area’s racing community that will be presented on the awards day honoring Carter, who showed Sportsmanship throughout his racing career. Carter tragically passed away in an automobile accident on June 13, 2024. Carter was a 2024 inductee of the South-Central Kentucky Dirt Racing Hall of Fame. His racing career included multiple track championships and numerous victories in his familiar No. 21 race cars.
The 2025 inaugural award will be given to Tyrel Todd of Pulaski County, Ky. Todd has not only raced dirt late models dating back to the late 1990’s, but has also been instrumental in sponsorship of racers, events and racing series the last few years through the family business Todd Steel Buildings.
“We are truly honored to have the blessing of the Carter Family for allowing us to create this special award in honor of a true racer, one who always showed sportsmanship and was a familiar face in the pit area that would help any racer possible,” stated SCKDRHoF Board Member Chris Tilley.
The Class of 2025 will officially be inducted in The Center for Rural Development Ballrooms on Saturday March 8, 2025. Drivers being inducted include Jack Boggs, Eddie Carrier Jr., Jeff Coulter, Whitney McQueary, Russ Petro, Ricky Spalding, David Speer, Tim Tungate, Mickey Williams & Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge. Contributors being inducted include Michael Despain, David & Anita Ferrell, Scott & Win Smith, Don Swafford & Spencer Wilson. The 2025 “Race Fan” award will be given to Joe Miller of Columbia, Ky.
