Rusty Schlenk Scores Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP Racing Stephen Wagner Memorial at Attica Raceway Park

ATTICA, OHIO (May 2, 2025)– The Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP Racing Fuels kicked off their 2025 racing season on Friday evening with the Stephen Wagner Memorial at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, OH and Rusty Schlenk of McClure, OH would take the lead on lap twenty-three and survive a late-race caution to the $5,049 payday.

The victory by the 38-year-old Schlenk was his 37th career Valvoline American Late Model Series Fueled by VP Racing Fuels and would come aboard the Tyler Borck owned Domination Race Car powered by a Clements Race Engine and carrying sponsorship from Terry Hendricks Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/RAM, Tom Finch Automotive, Tri-State Pole Barns, Buckeye Concrete Coatings, Landrum Performance Springs, Integra Shocks, Domination Race Cars, Dominator Race Products, VP Racing Fuels, Willy’s Carb and Dyno Shop, and Velocita USA.

With the drop of the XR Batteries Green Flag, Devin Shiels would take the race lead, followed by Colton Burdette, Rusty Schlenk, Kyle Moore, and Ryan Markham. Shiels would open up to a comfortable advantage, while Schlenk and Moore would battle for third, with Moore grabbing the position. Shiels continued to build his advantage, while Schlenk would now pressure Moore and reclaim the third spot on lap six. Shiels would begin to lap slower traffic on lap eight and Schlenk and Moore would begin to close the distance between themselves and race leader Shiels. Ryan Markham would chase down fourth place Moore and would take the fourth position on lap fifteen and Schlenk would pressure Burdette for second and take the runner-up slot on lap sixteen. Shiels and Schlenk would work through slower traffic and Schlenk would close right up on the rear bumper of Shiels on lap twenty-two and Schlenk would grab the lead on lap twenty-three from Shiels. Sheils would continue to battle with Schlenk and would momentarily grab the lead entering turn one on lap twenty-seven, only to have the top radiator hose come off and cause him to slip over the turn two banking to draw the only Deatheridge Racing Opticians caution flag of the event. The restart would see Schlenk hold the lead and pull away a bit from the field and score the victory over Burdette and Markham, while Todd Brennan would work past Moore just after the pair took the white flag and finished fourth, while Moore settled for fifth. The remainder of the top ten finishers were Dusty Moore, R.J. Conley, Ryan Missler, Levi Yetter, and J.R. Gentry.
The event scheduled for Saturday May 3 for the Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP Racing Fuels at Fremont Speedway in Fremont, OH has been cancelled due to the forecast of wet weather and cold temperature. The next event for the Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Late Model Series Fueled by VP Racing Fuels will be Saturday May 10 at Atomic Speedway in Waverly, OH, paying $5,000 to win and $500 to start the Mother’s Day Shootout/Ladies Night.
