Ronnie Johnson Grabs Iron-Man Racing Series 33rd Annual Gobbler Triumph

RINGGOLD, GEORGIA (November 20, 2021)– The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series and the Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series would visit Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA on Saturday for the 33rd Annual Gobbler event. Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN would inherit the lead on lap eleven and drive to his fourth-career Gobbler event victory in the $5,000 to win Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series main event. The 33rd edition of The Gobbler would be a record-breaking event with a total of 266 race cars on the grounds.

The 65-year-old Johnson, who is a National Dirt Model Hall of Fame member, would score his first career Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series victory and his triumph would come behind the wheel of a Capital Race Car powered by a Cornett Race Engine and carries sponsorship from Chattanooga Valley Used Cars and Parts, Dodd Brothers Towing, Stacy Whitfield Tile, Brothers Insulation, and Auto Exchange.

Kinzer’s victory would be the second career Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series victory for the 43-year-old driver aboard a MB Customs Race Car with a Randy Clary Race Engine sponsored by Kinzer Drilling Company, Quality Natural Gas, Custom Suspensions, Will Kinzer Foundation for Autism Research, CASVA Angus Farm, Dirt Wrap, Sweet Victory Apparel, Shear Worx, and Weststar Lubricants.

Ethan Hunter would take the lead at the start of the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series Gobbler main event, with Ronnie Johnson, Jensen Ford, Chase King, and Chris Jones giving chase. The front five would remain the same and by lap six, Ford would pressure Johnson for second, but Johnson would hold on to the runner-up slot. Hunter would start lapping slower traffic on lap eight, allowing Johnson and Ford to close in on the race leader. Just as the action heated up for the top spot, the first caution would appear on lap eleven when David Payne would slow on the backchute. The restart would see Ford dive beneath both Hunter and Johnson and grab the lead, but the caution would appear again when fifth place Jones slowed on the backchute. The next restart would also not see a lap completed when a tangle occurred in turn three involving Sam Seawright, Jaden Frame, Ray Cook, and Christian Hanger, with Cook done for the event. The next attempted restart would only see one more circuit completed before Hanger would slow on the frontchute with mechanical issues to slow the action again. This restart would see Johnson be hounded by Ford for the lead, with Chase King now in third, while Cory Hedgecock and Eli Beets would battle for the fourth position. Johnson would catch slower traffic and start lapping cars on lap twenty-seven, allowing Ford to close in and actually look under Johnson on a couple of occasions prior to the final caution of the race flying on lap thirty-four when Kyler Haygood slowed at the top of turn four. Johnson would maintain the lead on the restart and keep Ford at bay over the final few laps to score the victory, with Ford taking second and King finishing third. Hedgecock and Beets would complete the top five. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Heath Hindman, Cameron Weaver, Robby Mason, Dalton Cook, and Tod Hernandez.

The next event for the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series and Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series will be both tours 2021 season finale event at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN on Saturday November 27 for the 6th Annual Leftover. The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series will race for $5,000 to win/$450 to start and the Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series will race for $1,200 to win/$125 to start.
