Madden Kicks Off Karl Kustoms Bristol Dirt Nationals in Victory Lane at Bristol Motor Speedway

BRISTOL, TENNESSEE (March 25, 2022)– The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series would co-sanction with the XR Super Series and begin the 2022 edition of the Karl Kustoms Bristol Dirt Nationals at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, TN on Friday evening and Chris Madden of Gray Court, SC would lead all fifty laps on his way to the victory and the $50,000 payday in what was the richest paying event to date in series history.

The win by the 46-year old would be his second career Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series victory and would come aboard a Rocket Chassis powered by a Durham Race Engine with sponsorship from Drydene Engine Oils, Drydene Racing Formulas, Henderson Amusements, Millwood Plumbing, Franklin Enterprises, Davis Diesel Service, Worley Monument, Pyramid Materials, VP Racing Fuels, and Penske Racing Shocks.

Chris Madden would take the lead at the start of the event from his pole starting position, followed by Ricky Weiss, Jimmy Owens, Dale McDowell, and Earl Pearson, Jr. The only caution of the event would wave on lap two when Jensen Ford would spin in turn one and Michael Chilton would end being collected in the incident as well, with both drivers done for the event. The restart would see Madden maintain the lead, trailed by Weiss, Owens, and McDowell, with Darrell Lanigan jumping to fifth. Madden would set a torrid pace up front and would start working slower traffic on lap eleven as the remainder of the top five would remain the same. Brandon would begin to march his way into the top five as he would take fifth from Lanigan on lap eighteen and go second on lap twenty-three, only to have McDowell drive past him to retake the spot on lap twenty-six. Madden would stretch his lead to almost five seconds at this point in the event as Jonathan Davenport, who started 21st, would make his into the top five on lap thirty-six when he would pass Jimmy Owens and would continue his late race charge by working past Weiss for the fourth position on lap forty-one. Madden would battle through slower traffic in the waning stages of the event and would have lapped up to the eighth place machine when the checkered flag dropped on the contest. McDowell and Overton would complete the podium finishers in second and third. Davenport and Marlar would complete the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Weiss, Owens, Lanigan, Pearson, Jr., and Joseph Joiner.

The next event for the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series will be on Saturday March 26 at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, TN as part of the Karl Kustoms Bristol Dirt Nationals. The event will be co-sanctioned with the XR Super Series and the feature event will pay $50,000 to win.
