American Late Model Iron-Man Series
“BoB Series” in Kentucky Revived with 2025 Schedule of Events Released
SOMERSET, KENTUCKY (December 11, 2024)—Officials with the Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series fueled by VP have announced a mini tour within the regional series geared at Kentucky drivers. The tour will be called the Battle of Bluegrass DIRTcar Series presented by Slicker Graphics. The former tour affectionately known as the “BoB Series” ran from 2002-2009 and was formed by Spencer Wilson with a group of individuals that wanted to see regional racing thrive in the Bluegrass State.
“Lots of times, series are imitated or duplicated, and many people feel we may be trying to do the same thing, and in a way, we are, but this deal was put together to preserve racing in the state of Kentucky. We have tracks opening back up and that is a good thing,” stated Chris Tilley, promoter of the Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series. “When racing thrived in the state of Kentucky, we had plenty of race tracks open which allowed more racers the opportunity to get race cars and actually race closer to home instead of having to travel several hours to race and eventually they just quit traveling.”
Former champions of the original Battle of the Bluegrass Series include Eddie Carrier Jr. (2002), Mike Marlar (2003), Aaron Hatton (2004), Tim Tungate & Mike Jewell (2005 co-champions), Mike Jewell (2006) while Victor Lee was the champion in 2007, 2998 & 2009. A spin-off of the original tour was tried in 2016 and 2017 while Jeremy Hines was the tour champion those two seasons. Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn. is the winningest driver on the original tour with 17 victories. During the inaugural season in 2002, the series held all 20 events in the state of Kentucky. The BoB Series / Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series will co-sanction the 38th Annual Paul Butterball Wooldridge Memorial at Richmond Raceway on August 16 paying $12,059 to win with the Ultimate Heart of America Super Late Model Series. The former BoB Series sanctioned the Butterball Memorial from 2004-2009 at Richmond Raceway.
The eight-race mini tour will feature races within the state of Kentucky with two events at two tracks that appeared on the original schedule: 201 Speedway in Sitka & Richmond Raceway. Mountain Motor Speedway first appeared on the 2003 BoB Series schedule. The races are already part of the 32-race Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series fueled by VP but now drivers have the opportunity to race not only for points fund money on that tour but also DIRTcar regional and national money and the top-three drivers will earn money for the eight-race tour. The 2025 BoB Series Champion will receive $2,500.
