Iron-Man Late Model Series

Devin Gilpin and Tyler Nicely Victorious in Iron-Man Racing Series 18th Annual Hall of Fame Classic at Brownstown Speedway

BROWNSTOWN, INDIANA (August 6, 2022)– The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern and Southern Series and the Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Northern Series would visit Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN for the track’s 18th Annual Hall of Fame Classic. In Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series action, Devin Gilpin of Columbus, IN would start eighteenth, but take the checkered flag first and score his biggest career win with the $10,000 payday. Tyler Nicely of Owensboro, KY would lead flag-to-flag in the Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Northern Series feature contest to score the $1,000 payday.

For 31-year old Gilpin, it would be his second career Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series victory and would come in the seat of a Rocket Chassis powered by a Clements Race Engine with sponsorship from Jason Clarkson Logging, Ind-Sol Tech, Freedom Fireworks, South Central Roofing, DASCO Race Supply, Blondies Pizzeria, Reliable Insulation Service, Right Auto Parts and Machine, RJ Recyling, and Color Me Happy Salon and Spa.

The victory by the 27-year old Nicely would be his second career Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Series victory and came aboard an Elite Chassis powered by a Mullins Race Engine. Nicely’s entry is sponsored by Owensboro RV, Lucas Oil Center, Diggers Fencing/Siding/Guttering, D&J Auto Parts, Ted Brown’s Quality Paint and Body, and NFP.

Hudson O’Neal would take the lead at the start of the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series main event, trailed by Kent Robinson, Michael Chilton, Joe Godsey, and Scott James. James would take fourth from Godsey on lap two, with O’Neal maintaining the lead. The first caution would wave and become a red-flag when Keegan Cox would slip over the banking in turn one and roll his mount, but emerge from the car unharmed. The restart would see calamity occur in turn one when O’Neal would go around and collect the cars of Kent Robinson, Chad Stapleton, Jared Bailey, Steve Casebolt, John Clippinger, Scott James and Steve Peeden, resulting in the track being blocked and the red flag would be displayed again for a lengthy clean-up period, with only Robinson and Stapleton able to restart the event. Once action resumed, Chilton would now be the race leader, with Godsey second, while eighteenth place starter Devin Gilpin would roll the high-side and take third on lap five. Godsey would challenge Chilton for the lead and take the top spot on lap seven, while Gilpin continued his charge and would pressure Chilton for second and grab the position on lap eleven. The lead duo would start working lapped traffic on lap thirteen, with Gilpin challenging Godsey for the lead by lap seventeen. Gilpin would make his move and snatch the race lead from Godsey on lap twenty. Meanwhile, Skyller Lewis would begin working the bottom side of the track and make his way into the top five, taking fourth on lap twenty-three. Gilpin would continue to pull away from Godsey slightly out front, while twentieth place starter Greg Johnson would make his way into the top five on lap thirty-two. Once final caution for debris would wave on lap forty-one to set up a sprint to the finish. Gilpin would maintain the lead on the restart, while a spirited battle would begin for third through sixth, with Lewis eventually grabbing third and began to pressure Chilton for second, while Godsey, Johnson, and Kent Robinson would continue to wage war for fourth. Lewis would finally work under Chilton for second as the field would come to the white flag, with Gilpin grabbing the win and Lewis finishing second, while Chilton would snag third in a three-way battle at the finish, with Johnson and Godsey completing the top five. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Robinson, Tristan Chamberlain, John Clippinger, Austin Lay, and Brayton Laster.

Tyler Nicely would capture the lead at the start of the Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Northern Series feature contest and would have Cole Falloway, Jordan Wever, Derek Groomer, and Brayden Watson giving chase, with this being the running order when the first caution would appear for debris on the track on lap eleven. Nicely would maintain the lead on the restart, with Groomer challenging Wever for third and claiming the spot on lap thirteen and Groomer would snag the runner-up slot from Falloway one circuit later. The caution would appear again on lap seventeen when Blaze Melton’s mount would slow to a stop on the frontchute. Nicely would again control the restart, followed by Groomer, Falloway, and Wever, with John Demoss moving to fifth. The final caution appeared on lap nineteen when Brent Lee would slide over the banking in turn three to set up a one lap shootout to the finish. Nicely would hang on to score the win, followed by Groomer, Wever, Falloway, and Demoss. Watson would finish six, while Jimmy Lennex, Jr., Jerry Bland, Jr., Jerry Davis, and Nathan Vawter completed the top ten.
