American Late Model Iron-Man Series
Josh Rice Bags “The Butterball” with the Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series at Richmond Raceway
RICHMOND, KENTUCKY (August 16, 2025)– The Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP would complete the weekend of racing action at Richmond Raceway in Richmond, KY on Saturday evening for the 38th Annual VP Racing Fuels Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial and Josh Rice of Crittenden, KY would lead the final twenty-one laps of the event to claim his first win in “the Butterball” and claim the $12,059 victory. The event was co-sanctioned with the Ultimate Heart of America Super Late Model Series and Battle of the Bluegrass DIRTcar Series presented by Slicker Graphics.
The win by the 27-year-old Rice would be his nineteenth career Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP victory and third of the 2025 season with the tour and would come behind the wheel of the Rick Jones owned Rocket Chassis powered by a Vic Hill Race Engine. Rice’s winning entry carries sponsorship from Sunesis Holdings, M.C. Tank Transportation, Glenwood Electric, Air Max Heating and Cooling, Chain Locker, Rice Excavating and Plumbing, Schaeffer’s Oil, Sunoco Race Fuels, Impact RaceGear, and RBRGear.com.
The start of the 38th Annual VP Racing Fuels Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial would not see a lap made before Daniel Shelton would spin on entry to turn one to draw the caution flag. The second attempted start would be good and Jason Jameson would snag the early race lead, with Camaron Marlar, Justin Rattliff, Josh Rice, and David Webb in pursuit. The top five would remain the same as Jameson would set a torrid pace at the point and would begin lapping backmarkers by lap eleven. Josh Rice would begin to roll at this point as he would take third form Rattliff on lap fourteen and begin to chase down Marlar. Meanwhile, Michael Chilton would begin to challenge Webb for the fifth position and would take the position on lap eighteen. Jameson, Marlar, and Rice would begin to work heavy lapped traffic by lap twenty-one and this trio would weave their way in and out of slower traffic, with Rice eventually taking second from Marlar on lap twenty-eight. Jameson and Rice would settle into a battle for the top position, with Rice trying below and above Jameson, but not able to make the pass. Daniel Shelton would bring out the caution again on lap thirty-nine when he slowed in turn three. The restart would see disaster strike for Jameson and he would lose a left rear tire/wheel in turn two and draw the caution and would be done for the night. This turn of events would give the lead to Rice and he would control the restart, with Rattliff and Chilton going to second and third, shuffling Marlar back to fourth, with Webb now back in fifth. The front five would remain the same until the caution waved on lap forty-six for Trevor Landrum, who had slowed in turn four with a flat left-rear tire. Rice would again control the restart, with Chilton grabbing the runner-up slot from Rattliff. Only a few more circuits would be completed until the final caution of the event appeared on lap fifty when Clint Keenan would loop his mount in turn three. The restart would see the top five remain the same, with Rice out front, followed by Chilton, Rattliff, Marlar, and Webb. Fourteenth place starter Devin Gilpin would make his way into the top five when he scored the fifth position from Webb on lap fifty-one. Gilpin would then challenge Marlar for fourth, with the pair swapping the spot on consecutive laps before Marlar reclaimed the spot on lap fifty-four and would take the third position from Rattliff one lap later. Rice would go unchallenged the remainder of the way to score the victory, with Chilton and Marlar completing the podium finishers, while Rattliff and Gilpin completed the top five. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be James Rice, Derek Fisher, Forrest Trent, Rusty Schlenk, and Davd Webb.
The next event for the Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Late Model Series Fueled by VP will be on Saturday August 23 at Atomic Speedway in Waverly, OH for the Summer Sizzle, paying $5,000 to win and $500 to start.
